Traditional Easter Service: Who Do You Say Jesus Is?
Matthew 16:13-16; Matthew 28:1-15
A rabbi? A prophet? Lord? Christ? Savior? Who do you say Jesus is and why? On this Easter Sunday as we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection we take a close look at what Christians believe about this man, why they believe it, and why it matters. The Apostles’ Creed contains more about Jesus than anything else, focusing on his birth, death, and what comes after. We know what scripture says, but did he really descend to hell? What does it mean that he sits on the right hand side of God and judges the quick and the dead? We will break down the major statements about Jesus in the Creed and what those mean for us today What Do You Say?: Sit down with a paper and pen or laptop. After a few moments of silence and deep breathing, start writing down what you believe about Jesus. Who is Jesus to you? What does that mean to you? Which of Jesus’ titles is most meaningful to you? Is it important that Jesus rose from the dead and why? What would change for you if he didn’t? How do your beliefs about Jesus shape your life and your days now?
