Paul’s First Journey: Called to Go
Acts 13:2-4a, 38-39, 14:1-3, 22-23, 27-28
Paul’s home church in Antioch was worshipping and praying when the Holy Spirit sent Barnabas and Saul on a journey, though we weren’t sure originally where they were going. They ended up visiting several places preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Some people believed them while others opposed them and Paul’s life was threatened. In the churches he established, Paul set up a structure of leadership and listed traits each leader was to have which helped to sustain these churches in his absence. Paul returned to his home church to share with them all that had happened on his journey.
Reflection Questions: When have you heard the Holy Spirit say that there is a specific action God is calling you to do and what was it? How does Paul handle opposition and what can you learn from him? What list of needed characteristics would you create for church leaders?
